Lately I have been trying to incorporate some new techniques into my card making.
For today’s Mother’s Day card I stepped away from my Prismacolor Colored Pencils and Mona Lisa Odorless Paint Thinner and gave the watercoloring technique a try. I chose one of the Penny Black hedgehogs from the transparent stamp set “Wonderful” and colored him using a mix of Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils and Faber-Castell Watercolor Pencils. The paper that I stamped on is watercolor paper by Canson and in terms of ink, I went with Ranger Archival ink in “jet black”. I had watercolored a couple of images before but this was my first attempt at coloring a bigger and more detailed image. To make the hedgehog stand out, I framed him using my Spellbinders Nestabilities and for dimension mounted the frame on crafting foam. Since I chose pattern paper for my frame and wanted it to be a bit sturdier, I cut a second frame out of Kraft cardstock and glued it behind the yellow one that you see in the photo.
The title is by Stampin’ Up and part of the “Teeny Tiny Wishes” set. For a softer look, I stamped it in SU “chocolate chip” ink. In a final step, I added a flower shaped button that I thought would go really well with the flowers in the stamped image. The button is by Stampin’Up as well. I received a whole set of these buttons as a Sale-A-Bration gift with my order last month. I still have a lot of them left and can’t wait to use them on future cards.
I’m submitting this card to the April challenge at Penny Black @ Allsorts.
Thanks for looking! Until next time.

For this year’s Mother’s Day card I chose the Penny Black stamp “Poppy Fields” and the Inky Antics title stamp “Happy Mother’s Day”. I decided to mount the butterflies using crafting foam to add some dimension to the otherwise rather clean and simple card.
Thanks for stopping by and happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there!
